I listened to the Rap Mapping and the Everyday. Personally I thought the speaker did a well job of covering her story, and stated many unknown facts about the south and where the rap music started. She had a nice pace with the speed of her voice. However The speaker could have been a little more vocal, and managed her time on each slide more efficiently. Overall it was a good presentation on the "Dirty South."
What I learned from this Pecha Kucha was to have fun with mine. The speaker clearly enjoyed what she was doing which is why she paused at times to giggle, or to allow the class to laugh. I need to speak loud enough to have the whole classes attention. I will need to prep probably a lot before I present, so I can become confident in my presentation.

Face to Face assignment
The assignment today called for
our class to reflect on what we watched, read, and tested on. Today I feel as
if the basic concept of everything was racial profiling and discrimination.
Today we were in a way tested on four concepts on racial preferences and
discrimination the first is personal reflection of race, the second WWII Asian
discrimination, the third 9/11 Muslim racial profiling, and African American
Discrimination. Personally I liked the lesson and learned a lot about
discrimination, and how times were then.
Unfortunately I would like to
think times have changed since the 19th century, but it appears that every time
something bad happens to America we are quick to blame some race. The most
recent event was 9/11 and we started to question and blame Muslims in America.
Which brings me back to racial profiling. Multiple of them were targeted
and questioned on their beliefs, and other relations.
Don’t get me wrong America is
personally one of, if the not the best country to live. With all it has to
offer, and all the freedoms we are given. It’s just are we actually that free?
Any race that has been discriminated against would probably beg to differ. I
will admit we have seemed to take a large leap forward from what times used to
be like. We now have an African American President, whenever African Americans
used to not even be allowed to share the same water fountain.

Reading Response #3 Divergent
Reading Response #3 Divergent
In my Previous response I told you about the Dauntless initiation procedure, and how Tris is doing overall. Now she is starting her next part in training, the mental side. This is where she is flourishing and other initiates are starting to take notice. which is not necessarily a good thing.
While Tris is on her way back she is attacked by three people, lucky for her before the assailants can kill her she is saved by another Dauntless leader named Four, he is also the one that has been testing her. This is the part where Tris and Four's love story begins as well. Tris stayed with Four that night and that is also when you learn a lot about him. Four is also a Divergent, but maintains and hides it very well. His real name is Tobias Eaton, he is the abused son of Marcus Eaton. Marcus is one of the leaders of Abnegation. He is also one of Tobias's fears. Four begins to help Tris with her training, he is called Four because he only has four fears during his test, "Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it" I really liked this quote, because even though Four fears basically nothing he is still humble about it.
Coming up in my reading is that Tris will have to perform her simulation in front of the Dauntless leaders and if they find out she is Divergent, they will kill her, or possibly do tests on her. I'm scared for Tris, but I believe Four has helped her enough to hide the fact she is Divergent.
I chose the picture below, because this is the attack on Tris, and this is how Tris and Four start off their relationship. This is a very important part, because I feel if this didn't happen Tris and Four wouldn't have fallen in love.

Reading Response #2 Divergent
Reading Response #2 Divergent
I last left you off with Tris basically jumping to her death in my last blog. Now she has begun her training to become a dauntless. I started off reading this quote from Eric (Dauntless leader), “You chose us. Now we have to choose you.” The top twenty are the only ones who make the cut. They choose ten from the Dauntless born side and ten from the faction switcher side. If you do not make the cut you have to live with the factionless, which is basically you become homeless with nothing. Your mental, physical and even emotional skills are tested for this. It's mostly just fighting and seeing how you react to certain situations. Tris is unfortunately the weakest physically of the trainees, but her mental strength is very tough. This is also what might get her killed. It's apparently a bad thing to be divergent; I haven't quite figured out why, but the few people that know what she is, tell her to never speak of this.
Tris was able to see her mother when the family from the previous faction came to visit. I guess her father is still upset about her switching because he did not come to visit her. Tris's mother also finds out that Tris is divergent, and like the others tells her never to speak of it because she could be killed.
At this point in the book I'm severely hooked because I want to know what a divergent is and why it is bad to be one. I have a feeling Tris would like to know as well.
I chose the picture below to basically summarize how Tris did during her physical training (fighting)

Reading Response
Reading Response #1 : Divergent

I haven't always been a fan of reading, but when I find something I like I just can't seem to put it down. Divergent was definitely one of those books. if I had a favorite type of book it would have to be fiction, mostly because it takes my mind away from any distractions. I try not to judge a book by its cover, but even that's hard for me, so it was good that divergent had a pretty cool looking cover. The cover really makes me think and wonder.
Divergent is a really fast read for having 487 pages, you could easily read a quarter of it in a day. I haven't read much I'm only on page 138, but what I've grasped from it is, the main characters name is Beatrice, she is raised abnegation, which is a very peaceful, selfless faction. there are 5 factions, Dauntless: which is the thrill seeking faction, and the military as well. Erudite: The intelligent yet a little snobby faction. Amity: The laid back faction, very peaceful, they are the farmers. Candor: The very blunt and honest faction. the fifth would be abnegation. Every teenager is forced to pick one of these factions. Beatrice's test result came back inconclusive, so she was given the option between Dauntless, Abnegation, and Erudite. She picked Dauntless at her ceremony. During her first initiation they are forced to jump down a pit, not knowing what's at the bottom. Beatrice surprisingly jumped first. She landed on a net, she was able to pick a new name, since she was in a new faction. "What's your name Stiff, think carefully it's what you'll be known as." "Tris, my name is Tris." that is now how Beatrice became Tris. I really like how they basically get to start a new, and a clean slate. I look forward to reading in to the book more for my next reading response.
If I had to pick a fraction I would probably be stuck between Erudite or Candor. I say Erudite because I like to act like I know everything, and I consider myself intelligent. I say Candor because I speak my mind, and find it ridiculous to lie to people.
The picture below shows Tris jumping to possibly her death for Dauntless.
